Lockpicking is a specific skill available to Rogues only. As soon as you reach level 16 on your Rogue character you can learn the “Pick Lock” ability at your trainer. A Rogue skilled in Lockpicking is able to unlock various footlockers, doors, chests and lockboxes which come as a drop from various mobs.

Is Lockpicking a profession?

Lockpicking operates similar to any other profession. One can train it and skill it up. A maximum skill in Lockpicking will allow a Rogue to open everything that’s locked.

How do I level my Lockpicking?

It’s quite easy actually. A Rogue is able to skill up only by picking various locks. The leveling works same as with gathering professions like Mining or Herbalism. You need to find locks that are near your current lockpicking level in order to skillup. However, Lockpicking isn’t quite easy to level up but a great help with this will be your Rogue trainer who can point you to certain areas where you can find footlockers.

Why is this skill only available to Rogues?

Rogues are often considered to be thieves. Most of their game play is based on sneaking and being in stealth. With their pickpocket and lockpick skills they are perfect thieves. As a Rogue you can go in stealth and make your way to a chest and open it even if it’s locked. Hiding and being invisible are their main advantages.

Special items available for Lockpicking

As of now there is only one way to boost your lockpick skill which are the Dark Leather Gloves. A Leatherworker can make these gloves which improve your lockpick skill by 5 for you. These gloves also reduce the chance of failure when it comes to your lockpicking attempts and they add to a better range for your Lockpicking ability.

Is there nobody else that can open my locked boxes?

If you can’t find a Rogue skilled enough to unlock a lockbox for you or if you just found a chest in an instance and there is no Rogues in your group, you will have several alternatives.

Find a Blacksmith since he will be able to craft Skeleton keys that are also used to unlock locks. A BS is able to obtain four different key recipes at his BS trainer. Each of these recipes can create two keys. Engineers are also able to use Seaforium Charges in the purpose of opening locked doors and unlocking the chests.

Can I ask money for opening lockboxes?

This solely depends on a Rogue himself. If you see a Rogue announcing that he is willing to open boxes for people he usually makes it clear whether he is doing it for free or not. In most cases you won’t see many Rogues offering their Lockpicking skill.

Asking for assistance

It can happen during your time in the game that you end up with a lot of locked boxes and once you have several of them you can always ask someone in your guild to open them for you. If there is nobody available in your guild or none of your Rogue friends have Lockpicking skilled up, you can ask any friendly player you come across in the city. It’s polite to ask the Rogue first before you open the trade window.

What would I be able to find in my locked boxes?

Various uncommon, rare or even epic items can be found in different lockboxes as well as recipes, patterns and mats.
