Try finding a site that describes how a cylinder lock is made. Basically a few pins of different lengths kept pushed by springs. When under tension the pins do not allow the cylinder to rotate. When the key is inserted, the pins are pushed as to line up with the cylinder, permitting to rotate it. You could then try to line them up with a pin. I think it’s difficult to do it, but use the opportunity to learn how it’s made.
This site will show you:

Follow the demo, click "Insert correct key" button.

I really hope your door isn’t one you can open with a bobby pin. If it is, then I think you should get a new one since many people know how to do that and you can get robbed. Just always keep a key in your bag or in your jacket! duh! :D

to begin with today’s locks are not as easy as they use to be.and more then likely bobby pins won’t do the trick now. inside the locks are tumblers. never mind about going into all the details. modern locks are harder to pick now days.

This is very hard and very simple to do.
It take alot of practice to do it right all the time. All I can tell you about it is that there is something in the knob that has to turn.
