A shotgun works real well. Next best is a motion sensor hooked to a siren. Most thieves will not hang around with a siren screaming at them.
yes or a gun
I’m usually the one who brings the burgers in.
you answered your own question?
deadbolt, motion senseored security lights, cameras..?? doesnt stop them from picking your lock but helps prevent it or makes it harder
a deadbolt can be picked as easily as a knob. dogs are great deterrents if you don’t have an alarm.
Absolutely. A deadbolt cannot be picked and they are NOT expensive. Everyone should have this type of lock.
Jay P is right in that your average deadbolt can be picked as easily as locking doorknobs.
Like I tell all my customers,
if someone wants to get into your place bad enough,
they’re going to get in.
Whether that’s through the door or a window or whatever.
The thing is, thieves don’t want to spend a lot of time getting in and out of a place.
More of a chance to get caught.
So you can get more expensive locks that are more difficult to pick.
A big dog is a great deterrent.
An alarm system is also good in that it makes a lot of noise.
Thieves don’t like to draw attention to themselves.
Neighborhood watches are great too.
If you go on vacation or something, tell your neighbors so that if they see a strange car or van parked in your driveway, they know to call the police.
Most burglars do not pick locks; it takes skill to do that and a lot of patience. They will force their way in 90% of the time buy breaking a window, forcing a door open or coming in through a window or door that is unlocked.
A deadbolt is always a good idea! So are window locks. If you leave windows open that are easily reached, you should first keep the opening in the window too small for someone to gain entry and secondly, invest in a lock that prevents the window from being opened more than you intend.
Keep shrubbery trimmed back so you don’t create a good hiding place. Invest in a timer or two and use them to turn lights off and on, a radio on and so forth. If you have an answering machine; keep the ringer volume off or very low when you’re not home. A ringing unanswered phone is a dead give away that no one is home.
Another delightfully evil idea is to plant thorny, prickly plants near windows that someone might think about using to gain access.
If you need lock bumping protection the only way to go is install high security locks such as Medeco or Marks. Call your local locksmith company and get a quote.
