As you pop the tumbler up using your lockpick, you'll notice that sometimes it jumps right to the top and some times it moves a little slower. Don't try to lock it in when you've got a fast mover, because that means it won't stay at the top very long. When you get a slower mover, click the mouse as soon as the tumbler gets to the top, and you should get it to stick. Be patient! Raising your security skill will help, too.

Before you start lockpicking save your game, that way you can load it if you was like 20 lockpicks. It's all about timing really so lift the thing up a few times and you'll see that the speed at which the thing comes down changes. Try to hit the thing when it comes down slower( or faster) whichever is easiest for you.You could just hit auto attempt but that will probably waste more lockpicks if you have a low secrurity level.
